Marlene Dietrich's ode to Ronald Reagan, written in her Paris hotel room on a portable typewriter that once belonged to Noel Coward:
A tense silencePosted by Dr. Frank at November 5, 2005 05:15 PM | TrackBackGrips me Surrounds me
Grounds me to the
Messy floor Around me
No voice No wind No rain Just silence will remain
Around me What a fate
"Too late cried the Raven, Too late"
She must have been a big influence on Edgar Allan Poe. Or, um, vice-versa. Hey, maybe her stuff was unoriginal and slightly plagiarized....she typed it herself, didnt she?
Posted by: David Cummings at November 5, 2005 06:24 PMBesides, would the person to whom this poem was dedicated have known the difference?
Posted by: David Cummings at November 5, 2005 06:29 PMWas that pre- or post-dieresis Noel?
Posted by: Wes at November 6, 2005 10:39 PMIs there more to this poem? How do they know it has something to do with Regan?
Posted by: josh at November 7, 2005 03:17 PMProbably because it was titled "Bonzo Goes To Bitburg (Reprise)".
Posted by: Wes at November 8, 2005 06:56 AMA little Haiku for the occasion:
Marlene Dietrich's
Awful, tortured poetry
Should have stayed hidden
It came across to me as a slap in the face toword a fallen icon. He was "the Great Communicator" and should be respected even if not liked in his memory. I shake my head and pity the author.
Posted by: Zaphod at November 8, 2005 08:22 PMThat Clint Eastwood movie "Every which way but loose" that was a SUCCESSFUL primate themed movie. And that Abe Lincoln presidency, that was a WORTHWHILE AND BENEFICIAL presidential term. Take notes. Ronnie.
Posted by: Railroad bum at November 12, 2005 09:14 AMMarlene Dietrich can do no wrong.
Besides, she fought the nazis in her own special way.
