Burger King vs. the Food Police.
Posted by Dr. Frank at October 10, 2005 04:03 PM | TrackBackI heard an estimate recently that the average yearly consumption of cheese for each westerner is currently thirty pounds per year, and that in 1950 it was only six pounds.
Posted by: David Cummings at October 11, 2005 12:07 AMThat's would mean comsumption is currently only 1.3 ounces a day, not too much. I guess cheese wasn't very popular in 1950. 1.3 ounces of cheese a day is good for you.
Posted by: Jonas at October 11, 2005 09:09 AMgood for the burger king. i dont like the idea of the government and big business getting together to decide what kind of food i can buy... even if it is ostensibly for my own good. its survival of the fittest. people who are stupid enough to eat fast food everyday will be fat and never have sex or just die. leave the options out there. you want healthy, go eat some tree bark, bitch. leave my whopper alone.
Posted by: melody chest at October 11, 2005 03:26 PMPeople who eat fast food don't have sex?
Posted by: Amy 80 at October 11, 2005 04:48 PMi'm with Burger King on this one. It IS up to customers to make choices about their diet. And i have no problem with government intervening with big business, but i think it should be to tell a company they cant outsource jobs to countries that allow slave labor conditions just so the CEO can make an extra 10,000 a year on top of his 15 million. Thats all
Posted by: Tom at October 11, 2005 05:50 PMHas anybody tried that Meatnormous Sammich? It looks awesome. 740 calories? That's just one hour on the treadmill, a small price to pay for so much flavor. There's alway bulemia too. Eggs regurgitate rather easily. I've never coughed up bacon though. That could be nasty.
Posted by: Tim at October 11, 2005 09:28 PMI like outsourcing. I like whoppers (well, not really, but in theory). I don't like paternalism. I really don't like this:

Posted by: Buckeye Bill at October 12, 2005 04:21 PMDon't mean to change the subject, but taken out of context, this poster is one of the funnier things I've seen on the internet in awhile:

Posted by: Buckeye Bill at October 12, 2005 04:48 PMJust institute a Calorie Tax and be done with it.
(Flat tummy Tax?)
the Kings gone mad! or a marketing genius!
Posted by: Catherine at October 13, 2005 05:26 AMFast food is so disgusting. I'm not with the BK on this one. No one needs a 740 calorie sandwich.
Posted by: Manda Magpie at October 13, 2005 07:46 PMWhenever a restaurant figures out a way to add three different types of pig-meat to one sandwich, you know they're doing something right.
Posted by: Tim at October 13, 2005 10:57 PMUgh. I think I can actually hear some of you getting fatter. As someone who works their tail off to pay or a ridiculously huge Medicare health and drug bill for seniors here in America(something like a a gazillion dollars a year now, even though I don't have good health coverage as a young worker), I don't blame health-conscious Brits one bit if they have to subsidize the health care of a nation who eat anything that breathes or craps.
Posted by: David Cummings at October 14, 2005 01:56 PMYeah, you are right Jonas...1.3 oz of cheese a day is fine. I think the source for that stat was that Politically Incorrect guy on a show taping of his.
Posted by: David Cummings at October 14, 2005 02:00 PM there you go...do the fatty eaters want to help me pay more for health care when the premiums go up?
i'm all for free agency over what you eat and all but i don't want pay for your heart attacks.
you know i never thought of that david cummings...thats a good point.
Posted by: Tom at October 16, 2005 10:56 PMLet's get to the really important bit: What do our cousins across the pond think of the creepy, fiberglass-head Burger King in the commercials?
And will he leapfrog over Prince Charles in the succession line?
In response to just me: I feel pretty much the same way about smokers. I don't care what they do to themselves, but when it affects my rates, that ain't right.
