Hey, the MTX is playing this Saturday (7/17) at Slim's in San Francisco. With the Dollyrots and Fenway Park. Try to make it if you can, and so will I.
Posted by Dr. Frank at July 12, 2004 03:04 PM | TrackBack6/17 is June 17...I'm guessing you meant 7/17. Either way, I won't be able to go, but if there was any way, I'd be there.
Posted by: Amy 80 at July 12, 2004 05:42 PMOops, you're right, Amy. Thanks. My note to self et al. was faulty. I never know what month it is...

NOVEMBER!

frank, you're killing me,here i am trying to recover from a move and you play a show the
week before i go to the same place i'm going to see the Aquabats next week. i've never ever seen them and i just have to see them.
i'll be at both shows of course, but my wallet
will be unhappy with you. ; )
laters,
beth
goddamnit. i have to miss you guys playing at slim's AGAIN.
i'm going to slim's tomorrow, 7/14, though for the haight/ashbury youth outreach and needle exchange program benefit. it's kinda funny, b/c it's this big metal show, and i'm sooooooo not metal. i'm gonna feel like such a big dork. a friend of mine is in one of the bands, though, and it's for a really, really good cause regardless [which is why i'm encouraging anyone who happens to read this comment to attend].
Posted by: anne at July 13, 2004 07:47 PM"MTX's own Doctor Frank to publish his first novel, King Dork"
I would've felt like so much more the loyal fan if I'd heard about it here, rather than on the Lookout website.
Yeah, I just saw this on the Lookout! page:
King Dork, a young adult novel by MTX's own Doctor Frank
Lookout is overjoyed to annouce that King Dork, a young adult novel written by Doctor Frank will be published by Delacourt Press, a division of Random House, in late 2004 or early 2005.
The book focuses on trials and tribulations of a teenager and his band. All of you familiar with MTX will know to expect a poignant and hilarious story, filled with humor and heartbreak.
If you're in the San Francisco area, you can personally congratulate Doctor Frank by coming out to see MTX perform this Saturday night, July 17th at Slim's with The Dollyrots and more.

Wha? When? Hooray! Huzzah!
I can't wait to pay cash money to buy this book and then read it in one thrilling 10-hour session. Please to give a details, Frank?
Posted by: Ken Layne at July 14, 2004 12:16 AMAwww, congratulations Dr. Frank! It'll be a nice change of pace to read something other than my GRE book at work. I'm up for a "poignant and hilarious story, filled with humor and heartbreak".
Posted by: shell at July 14, 2004 01:43 AMFilled with which humors?
Very cool. I suppose the title "Young Adult Novel" was already taken, but "King Dork" will do just as well.
Posted by: Wes at July 14, 2004 01:48 AMYeah I'm really excited about this, we need details. Why have you said nothing about it on the blog?
Posted by: chach at July 14, 2004 04:46 AMYay Frank! Way to go! I can't wait to read it!
Posted by: Lynn at July 14, 2004 06:30 AMThe book sounds great. Link from Knock Knock Records message board about where Dan Treacy is http://bored.knockknockrecords.com/index.php?topic=3542.0
Posted by: Georgina at July 14, 2004 01:18 PMHey, thanks for being interested in the book. I haven't said anything about it on the blog because I'm still working on it and I don't really know what to say. Ken, man, it's good to have you back in my world - maybe this writing thing was worth it after all. And Wes, as you know, it pains me that "Young Adult Novel" was already taken, but that's what happens: the geniuses get all the good ideas first.
Posted by: Dr. Frank at July 14, 2004 03:30 PM10 hour session? I use to read those things(YA novels) in 3 lunch breaks in high school. Someone's in the remedial class hahaha . Sorry.
Posted by: mike at July 14, 2004 06:22 PMYeah, Mike, it's funny how it only takes three lunch breaks to read one but like a year to write one.
Posted by: Dr. Frank at July 14, 2004 06:51 PMzing!
Posted by: pjdangerous at July 14, 2004 09:41 PMthinking of heading over here to england any time soon young fellow?
Posted by: jellybean at July 14, 2004 11:15 PMNot that it's relative to the topic, although I am looking forward to the book... But anyone on this page who lives in St. Louis is invited to come to see my band Semi-Ok, at the Morganford Blues Bar... we are not blues or a MTX cover band(we are under the influence, as much as late twentysomethings can) but we do very well at living up to the name. It's a free show to benefit the bar.
Posted by: michael at July 14, 2004 11:43 PMwow, dr. frank is writing a novel?! omigod, this is like my dream come true. now i understand the headers, footers, and pagination problem. rad....!
Posted by: r a e d y at July 15, 2004 05:55 AM10 hour read vs 3 lunchbreaks: Depends on the material, nodoby is reading War and Peace on 3 lunch breaks, but a Sherlock Holmes novel, no problem. Perhaps the guy who said 10 hours thought that this was going to be a thome of epic proportions such as the 1000+ page Unabridged Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy or Bill Clinton's "My Life".
Posted by: Zaphod Beeblebrox at July 15, 2004 05:25 PMa year? dang! i'd better get writing if i want my "disenfranchised anachronistic guy in his 30's" novel out by 2005 (loosely autobiographical).
Posted by: mike at July 16, 2004 12:55 AMFrank, that is such bad timing. Remember Shari and Lyndsay from Cleveland? That's us and we were just in San Francisco all week (the 12th -16th) and you play the day after we leave? We knew about this weeks ago but we couldnt change our plans. We are so sad to miss it. We wish you could've played during the week. Hope the show was great!
Posted by: Shari at July 17, 2004 10:19 PMshari and lindsay, you were in sf while i was in boston! Nothing going on out east though, but i'd be more than bummed to miss mtx by a day! come visit me in minnesota, you too frank! haha.
