I want to believe...
UPDATE: As Georgina points out in the comments, the relatively benign photo of "Tony Clifton" down towards the bottom of the pseudo-Andy blog has been replaced by some extremely gross images. Resist the urge to scroll down. You don't want to see them. Trust me.
UPDATE II: According to commenters brave enough to check it out, the gross pictures have been replaced with the stolen pictures. Somehow, though, I find I'm no longer very interested in this topic.

Posted by: Georgina at May 26, 2004 05:40 PMYeah, me too.
Posted by: MattJ at May 26, 2004 05:41 PMDamn. Sorry, Georgie. I wish you hadn't made me wonder what happened when you scrolled down to make you wish you hadn't. That ain't right...
The last time I loaded the page, there was just a picture of Tony Clifton (or a guy dressed as Tony Clifton-- if there's any difference) surrounded by Bunny Ranch girls. Either someone hacked the site and put in the new pics, or this is the blogger/pseudo-Andy trying to gross everyone out. Mission accomplished, friend, but I know the Real Andy wouldn't have done that.
Posted by: Dr. Frank at May 26, 2004 06:06 PMJesus. I made the mistake of scrolling down before visiting your site. I haven't been "goatsed" in years.
Posted by: John Little at May 26, 2004 07:56 PMBtw, that sort of thing is what happens when someone uses an image that is linked from another person's server. The linker is basically stealing bandwidth (thus, money) from the original image hoster. Swapping out images while keeping the same image name will cause anyone displaying the original photo to get the uppdated shot. It's a prank that is supposed to teach a lesson. Unfortunately the victim is usually the innocent visitor, not the blog poster.
In any case, here's a blog post with the Clifton-with-bikini'd-gals photos you were talking about:

sick
Posted by: Bill at May 26, 2004 09:15 PMDave, thanks-- hadn't considered that. At least the prankster's approach is (kind of) clever. I like the ebay guy.
Posted by: Dr. Frank at May 26, 2004 09:29 PMI just found the courage to look up who Andy Kaufman really was. Being born in '87 i don't know, but i was quite sure he didn't do that...
Posted by: Georgina at May 26, 2004 10:41 PMThe pics have been fixed now. The previous pics were utterly disgusting. There is no mention of an apology for the gross pics that were there before, so maybe it was intentional as some sort of sick gag?
Posted by: Zaphod Beeblebrox at May 26, 2004 10:53 PMGeorgina, go rent the Jim Carey movie called "Man on the Moon". You'll learn all about the hillarious, annoying and absurd life of Andy Kauffman. Then you'll have to wonder if his biggest prank ever is currently unfolding as we speak.
Posted by: Zaphod beeblebrox at May 26, 2004 10:54 PM you know,i haven't seen that movie but the last
time i had access to cable there was a special
about him on Comedy Central that was ALWAYS on,
i didn't get it then and i don't get it now.
i was born in '75 but the comedy must still be
before my time.
either that i'm just clueless to his i'm sure
hilarious brand of wit.
It's again safe to scroll down. He changed the picture source, using a free image hosting company.
On another note, he isn't limiting comment size, so a "BlancoSuave" posted the entirety of the Great Gatsby in his message boards, which is funny, annoying, and quite in the Andy spirit.
Posted by: Dave Bug at May 27, 2004 01:11 AMWell, you're a year older than I am and I never have been a big fan of SNL and his part on Taxi (which I watched in reruns) wasn't that big or deep (I actually enjoyed Tony Danza and Christopher LLoyd much more) and I never saw his standup, so the movie "Man in the Moon" was my first "real" exposure to him and I thought he was halfway between hillarious genius and derranged lunatic. I then watched his old archived stuff and laughed my fool ass off.
Posted by: Zaphod Beeblebrox at May 27, 2004 01:14 AMAndy Kaufman was the kind of guy who if he wasn't being a professional entertainer, would probably be attempting to assassinate world leaders, or blowing up school busses.
Posted by: utility knife at May 27, 2004 06:12 AMhey frank, glad to see you were interested in andys recent shenanigans. I figured you would appreciate it. could it be true that one of my heros is back from the dead? the whole thing is set up so horribly and unbeleivably, its gotta be andy. i love how he is enraging people and possibly from the grave.
haha.
luuuuke.
Posted by: luke black at May 27, 2004 08:00 AMI think the best evidence that this is not real is where it says "Here I am in the Tony Clifton character".
I don't think Tony Clifton was ever a "character" in the world of Andy Kaufman. He was Tony Clifton.
Posted by: Josh Maxwell at May 27, 2004 04:32 PMI also don't think he'd be ranting about the "liberal media." He was never really political at all, and the problem in his day was that the media wasn't "liberal" enough (in the classic sense of the word).
Posted by: Jason Toon at May 27, 2004 07:49 PMDon't you think that a guy can change in 20 years? Have you? I know I have, of course 20 years ago I was 8, but even your father and mother can attest to the fact that they have as well.
Posted by: Zaphod Beeblebrox at May 27, 2004 09:47 PM
a. give up, its not gonna turn out to be real
b.on forgive me a completely unrelated note,
i told our good doctor his monkey song
reminded me of this fellow,so if you're curious
check it out:

it surprisingly doesn't look like much for
a guy that's had a few good albums on more
than a local level.
Aw geez Beth, just go ahead and stomp on my dreams, take my heart and twist it until until you've squeezed out every last drop of blood. The next thing you'll tell me is that there is no Santa Claus and the Easter Bunny's dead. *Imagination is fun* Andy believed in that.
Posted by: Zaphod Beeblebrox at May 28, 2004 12:01 AMOh and John Lennon did too :)
Posted by: Zaphod Beeblebrox at May 28, 2004 12:02 AMzaphod, you verbose jackass
Posted by: me too at May 28, 2004 12:41 AM
Oh don't worry ;),I believe in a lot of
things that a lot of people don't and some people think is true and restored.Imagination is great,I think I've said before I don't live in reality.
But I also know a hoax when I hear about it.
Thank you, "me too". I try.
